Food was fresh and flavorful. Portions were plentiful. Enjoyable atmosphere and comfortable. Service was really slow but pleasant. Prices are a bit high for the quality of food you receive. Other establishment have the same item menus but less costly. We enjoyed it but probably wouldn't return.
Not family friendly and cannot handle volume. We have s sleepy infant and they are asking that we take the baby out of the stroller because it's too "dangerous". So I let my family sit and I stood in jr front because I didn't want to wake my son up and create a seen in the restaurant with a screaming baby. While I was up here 3 parties walked in (the restaurant is empty) and the hostess became frantic and didn't know how to seat. She told one party who inquired on why they were waiting so long "we have tables it's just so many people walked in at once and we have to figure out who's going to take you". I'm disgusted. Especially because I'm manager of a family owned restaurant that seats over 600 covers on a Saturday night and we have strollers everywhere! Keep your patrons happy! My family decided to get up and leave instead of ordering their main courses out of pity. The hostess said "sorry" gave us the bill and let's us leave. They lost a potential $450 check on a slow night for a stroller.
The food is rich and delicious. Crab cakes are loaded with fresh crab (not stuffing), the shrimp are huge and tasty, and the clam chowder is the best I've ever had. I also had a fall seasonal salad with roasted root vegetables, goat cheese, and apples...YUM!!! Our server was charming, and the music takes you back to when times were easy. I love this place!
My wife and I came here for dinner on our last night in Mystic. I wish we had come earlier. Happy hour prices for food and drink were the best we had come across. My wife's lobster roll was top notch with a generous amount of lobster. I had the Shrimp flatbread and shrimp cocktail. Both were delicious. Our server, Gabby, was very professional, friendly and helpful. We hope to return to Mystic in the future. If we do, our first meal will be at the Ancient Mariner.
One of the worst restaurant experiences we have had in a long time. Service was very slow. I ordered prime rib and baked potato, husband ordered mac n' cheese w/braised ribs. My prime rib was extremely chewy and baked potato was not cooked all the way through. Husband's pasta was flavorless and his ribs were equally chewy and stringy. Waitress never offered us a different meal or to correct issue. Said it was out of her control. While we waited for the bill a different server asked a nearby table how they liked their food and the wife said that her risotto was just rice that wasn't cooked all the way with broth and chicken poured over it. The waitress seemed to be almost in tears afraid to go tell the kitchen, said she needed her job. I would not recommend this place to anyone.
